CBG is booming: These are the best CBG oils around

We’re long past the point where THC and CBD are known mainly to cannabis users alone. With medical and adult-use dispensaries in dozens of US states, and an ever-growing cornucopia of CBD products available, both of these uber-famous cannabinoids are approaching household name status.

The same cannot be said for cannabigerol (CBG) — but that may be changing.

What is CBG?

Often referred to as “the mother of all cannabinoids,” CBGA is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that is converted to other cannabinoids such as THCA and CBDA (hence, mother of all cannabinoids), as well as CBG.

CBG typically doesn’t occur in as high a concentration as other cannabinoids, but many cultivators are starting to focus on growing cannabis chemovars with higher concentrations of CBG, largely due to its growing popularity.

How CBG works

CBG works in part by interacting with the receptors of what is known as the endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate and harmonize all types of bodily functions ranging from appetite to reproductive function to memory and learning.

But while CBG does indeed regulate the ECS receptors to some extent, most of its effects are mediated through different channels. This is one of the reasons CBG is being researched for such an array of conditions. CBG’s interaction with certain receptors is currently being researched for conditions such as diabetes and obesity, and there are also indicators that suggest it could be researched for ADHD, PTSD and dementia.

What is CBG oil?

CBG oils are oils that contain a substantial amount of CBG. There are a few ways to manufacture such oils, primarily using an extraction of isolated CBG from either a hemp or marijuana plant, or a whole plant extraction that may also include other cannabinoids, terpenes and other phytonutrients.

There are pros and cons to both types of CBG oils, but often the main consideration for consumers is the presence (or lack) of THC in the preparation. Both types can have THC in them, so be sure to check the ingredients. Though many of the available products are listed as CBG oil, they are often a 1:1 mixture of CBG and CBD.

Potential benefits of CBG oil

It’s important to note that while cannabis is one of the most-researched plants on Earth, and there is a large body of research on cannabinoids such as THC and CBD, when it comes to CBG, research is still limited. Like any other health treatment, before trying CBG, you should first consult with a healthcare professional who specializes in cannabis treatment in order to avoid potential contraindications and drug interactions.

Based on the research that has been published, there is evidence of potential neuroprotective effects with CBG, providing hope it could help with diseases like ALS, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis, in addition to inflammatory conditions like colitis and metabolic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.

In a 2013 study performed on rodents with colitis, researchers stated that CBG “attenuated murine colitis,” and concluded that CBG “could be considered for clinical experimentation in IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) patients.” An additional study carried out on rodents with colitis found that CBG was effective in treating the condition.

For patients dealing with the symptoms of chemotherapy-associated weight loss and loss of appetite, there has been some research that provides evidence that CBG can increase appetite and lessen weight loss. While there is still not a wider body of conclusive evidence on CBG’s ability to stimulate appetite, the fact that it is not intoxicating could make it a preferred treatment to THC.

Keep in mind that up to this point, no clinical studies on humans on CBG have been performed, and the existing body of evidence leans on preclinical research.

A short history of Absolute Nature

In a cannabis industry that can seem like the “wild west,” with no shortage of fly-by-night companies trying to piggyback on the CBD and CBG craze to make a quick buck, Absolute Nature treads a different path. The company’s ethos is that “everyone deserves the right to have access to clean, quality, safe and honest cannabinoid products. No hiding behind purposely misleading jargon, hiding ingredients, selling cash grab products with no efficacy, to the use of potentially harmful ingredients. That is not us, and never will be.”

For Absolute Nature, the goal is simple enough: use nothing but locally grown and sourced Colorado hemp to produce premium, all-natural, unadulterated, whole-plant full spectrum cannabinoid products.

Based out of Dallas, Texas, the team behind Absolute Nature has more than 20 years of experience in natural health, fitness, natural supplements, and cannabis-derived products.

Absolute Nature believes strongly in making access to cannabinoid products easier, and provides a number of CBD assistance discount programs, including a 60% discount for US veterans, low-income households, families with family members on the spectrum, people on long-term disability, and first responders.

Absolute Nature has also won a number of industry accolades. The company was named “Best Natural CBD Products Provider 2020 & Most Innovative CBD Training Education Programme 2020” at the Medical Marijuana Awards 2019, was selected as one of the top CBD oils by CBD Validator, and one of the top 10 CBD oils by Healthline in 2020.

How to use CBG

CBG products are available in a variety of forms including oils, gummies, capsules, and topical solutions. Your best bet for using CBG is to first speak to your physician, and choose with them the right type of product and brand.

Of course, any CBG treatment regime should be carried out only after consultation with a healthcare professional with an expertise in cannabis-derived medications. This is especially important if you take any prescription medications which could potentially have an adverse reaction to CBG.

Also, CBG is not regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration, there is no standardized dosing protocol for CBG and its use as a widespread treatment or health supplement is still relatively new.
