The solventless game is nothing new, but it keeps growing and evolving so often that it can make it a bit difficult to keep up. In this article we will detail a few recent trends and innovations that are shaping the face of solventless cannabis production in 2025.
Hash has been produced for thousands of years starting in the Middle East. Currently you can find a wide variety of products ranging from old school hashish, to new age Piatella Hash, all the way to the super refined hash rosin. Let’s take a look at some recent innovations in the solventless space.
Stainless Steel Mesh Screens
If you have ever pressed hash rosin, you probably know that rosin bags are an essential tool. Rosin bags are nylon mesh bags that hold in the unwanted plant material while allowing the rosin to flow through the mesh and be collected.
If you are wondering, “How to press hash rosin”, then here is a quick summary. Basically, your hash or flower is placed inside rosin bags. The rosin bags are then placed onto a heat press known as a rosin press. Rosin presses act like a tee shirt press, but with a lot of extra pressure. The heated plates of a rosin press and hydraulic pressure squeeze the rosin bag tight and heat it up. The rosin then flows through the nylon mesh rosin bag and is collected. Unwanted plant material is left behind inside the rosin bag.

Recently, some people have begun to use stainless steel mesh rosin screens in place of rosin bags. Stainless steel screens are highly durable so users can crank up the pressure and really get the highest yield from their press. Many people double or triple bag rosin bags so they do not explode (blowout) when applying high pressure.
Stainless steel rosin mesh screens can also be reused with some simple hot water washing. This can save you money in the long run.
Stainless steel screens also do not have seams like rosin bags do. A rosin bag is sewed together so there is inevitably a seam. It is not uncommon for some rosin to get stuck in the seam and become uncollectable. This problem is solved when using stainless steel mesh screens because there is no seam.
Many stainless steel screens available online come in precut sizes: 6×6, 12×12, 18×18 inches are the most common. Respectively, these sizes can handle 14 grams, 50 grams, and 112 grams. They are most commonly sold in the 25 micron size because that is most popular for pressing hash rosin.
THCa Isolate

In the quest for ever-increasing potencies, innovators in the industry have come across THCa isolate production. This is just pure THC – the highest potency possible for an extract. Hash and rosin, while relatively high in potency compared to cannabis flower, still contain other molecules like terpenes. That is all well and good as terpenes provide the unique flavor and aroma of cannabis products, but sometimes, extra THC can be nice.
THCa isolate can be used in a variety of ways. It can be sprinkled on a bowl or joint and act like super high potency kief. It can be mixed back with terpenes for a unique product (you can use any terpenes you want to create your own blends). Or you can just go ahead and take a dab of pure THC.
There are two main methods to extracting THCa isolate: mechanical separation or heat cure. Mechanical separation involves pressing and re-pressing the rosin over and over again until the terpenes have fully separated and you are left with THCa isolate crystals. This can be accomplished with the stainless steel mesh screens mentioned in the section above.
You can also leave hash rosin in a heated environment (heat cure) for an extended duration to facilitate the separation of terpenes and THCa crystals. This end product has been called “diamonds and sauce” by some in the industry because the terpenes are saucy and the THCa isolate looks crystally like a diamond.
Vac Tek Rosin Curing

Vac Tek has emerged as an innovative method of preparing your hash to be pressed into hash rosin. When pressing hash rosin, there is a fine line of how much time the rosin bag spends on the heated plates of the rosin press. Too little time and you will have low yields. Too much time and the quality of your product can suffer.
Vac Tek attempts to solve this problem. By vacuum sealing a rosin bag filled with hash, it will begin to “grease” up. The result is a sticky and almost wet brick of hash inside your rosin bag. Greased up hash will press much quicker into rosin so that you can spend less time on the press and get a higher quality end product. All you need is a vacuum sealer, rosin bags, and some parchment paper. Just fill the rosin bag, wrap the parchment paper around it, place all of this inside a vacuum seal bag and then vacuum seal it. Let that sit for about 45 minutes while the hash greases up. Then you are ready for a quick and efficient press that will leave you with some of the best rosin you’ve ever seen!
