Cannabis science doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Research evolves, policies shift, and headlines often move faster than the evidence itself. Dr. Codi’s Corner is where those pieces are brought together and examined through a clinical and pharmacological lens.
This section is designed to help readers understand what the evidence actually shows, where the gaps remain, and how emerging science and policy translate to real-world health and safety and regulatory considerations.
It is interpretation, context, and clarity. But it’s also just one pharmacist’s opinion.
Who is Dr. Codi Peterson?
Dr. Codi Peterson, PharmD, MS is a clinical pharmacist and cannabis science educator with experience spanning patient care, academic instruction, and evidence-based cannabis education. His work focuses on improving how cannabis is understood and integrated into healthcare by translating complex science, real-world clinical patterns, and evolving policy into clear, accessible insight for patients, clinicians, and the public.
In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Peterson serves in leadership and advisory capacities within patient- and pharmacist-focused advocacy organizations, including as a board member of Americans for Safe Access and the Pharmacists Cannabis Coalition of California. Through this work, he contributes to efforts aimed at advancing patient access, evidence-based regulation, and the role of pharmacists in cannabis-related care.
You may find this section most useful if:
- A cannabis headline feels alarming or confusing
- A new study seems overstated or contradictory
- Policy changes raise more questions than answers
- You want to understand cannabis through a clinical, systems-based lens
Areas of focus
Clinical Perspective
This section explores how cannabis science shows up in real patients and real care settings.
Recent publications
New cannabis research appears constantly, but not all findings carry the same weight.
Advocacy, Policy & Regulation
Cannabis policy often shapes access, safety, and research long before it affects patients directly.
The Endocannabinoid System
Understanding cannabis begins with understanding the system it interacts with.
Cannabinoid Science
Cannabinoids are not interchangeable, and small chemical differences matter.
A note on evidence and uncertainty
Cannabis research is still evolving. In many areas, the available evidence remains limited, incomplete, or shaped by longstanding regulatory barriers. Where scientific consensus exists, it will be stated clearly. Where it does not, uncertainty and limitations will be acknowledged explicitly.
This approach reflects how clinicians and scientists evaluate evidence in practice — by weighing data carefully, recognizing gaps, and avoiding overstatement.
